Hunger Strike Continues 7/24 on Capitol Hill Day #19 Demanding $200B Budget Shift from Pentagon to Plan B 3.0 Awaits Notification from Dennis Kucinich

NW corner of Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC, January 1, 2009. In order to understand this action, "Imagine that you've seen a meteor just days from striking earth and congress is doing nothing but talk. What do you do," asks Start Loving, when asked to explain this campaign.

I expect to remain on Capitol Hill, NW corner of the Cannon House Office building 24/7 consuming only water, vitamins, and electrolytes until Dennis Kucinich, the congressman I most trust, comes out to tell me that the funding shift is a certainty."

Ramsey County sheriff's deputies found weapons, [three buckets of urine], and devices to disable buses - among other items - in searches in the Twin Cities last night and today.

Bruce Nestor, chapter president of the Minnesota National Lawyers Guild, said he was present where the urine buckets were taken and that none were identified in a search warrant inventory as urine.

He said two of the buckets were used to flush toilets and conserve water, while another was taken from an apartment that did not have a bathroom but was unconnected to the Welcoming Committee. He accused Sheriff Fletcher of staging a "political stunt."

Protest group wins reprieve to set up big TV at convention Minneapolis Star Tribune

Protest group True Blue Minnesota will get to set up its 20-by-30-foot television screen at Triangle Park near the Xcel Energy Center during the Republican National Convention -- at least through Tuesday, Ramsey County District Judge Kathleen Gearin said Friday.

True Blue had received a permit from the city of St. Paul but the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board refused to issue a variance, citing safety concerns. Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau, a Republican, heads the board and cast the deciding vote. FULL ARTICLE

I , on the other hand, am trying to figure things out still. Maybe not trying hard enough, but I'm doing alot of asking.

There's plenty of words I could ramble in this email, but I'll keep it short this time and most importantly I wanted you to know I haven't forgot your eyes.

And your advice about this time of my life being very difficult ( mid 20's...finding a core identity and purpose in this life) and about serving with the Catholic Social Workers.

Recovery continues

Clearly I'm out of any health danger.

Still limited to about 10 waking hours per day. All other energy goes to simply digesting food, it seems - sound sleep. Frustrating! My days are cut so short.

Eat and Sleep - all I can handle. Recovery slow.

Hmmm. This is the longest, slowest Hunger Strike recovery for me yet. I'll guess that 62 days of Hunger Strike within 120 has something to do with it; it pretty extreme heat.

Body seems to be functioning properly - kidneys functioning again, it seems.

But zero energy. Zero stamina.

Sleeping, like the dead, 18 hours per day.

Letter to a friend:

I just wanted to acknowledge that yes, I am doing an awful lot of lying around. But it turns out I am fairly ill from this last trio of Hunger Strikes. I am now sure that my kidneys have been doing badly along with my bowels.

I am quite sure they are mending, finally, but extremely slowly.

The evening at the signs seems to go fine. But beyond that, I awake in the morning after a long, long sleep, feel fine, sit at the computer for 30 minutes or so, and my body crawls itself back into bed.

My kidneys have a mild, dull ache, and my bowl is not doing well.

My only point in sharing this is to acknowledge that I am doing a lot of lying around and not much else that is useful.

I suspect this will finally pass, soon.

FYI, I've been sick this time for four days solid. I am quite sure it is my kidneys. Have zero energy, am pretty yellow (alarmed some of my friends), have ZERO energy - just sleep all day and night, and ach in the mid-section - kidney area; waves of low fever. Today I am feeling fairly normal, so far, for the first time in a week; but now I've been sitting up for 30 minutes, and my body is crawling back into bed.

Now, this is a warning to us both. But, at the same time, if I am NOT in harms way, I am of no damn good, not in this rapidly disintegrating world.

Among my many failings is the ability to anticipate how long it takes me to recover - physically, emotionally, and psychologically - from these campaigns. Aside from sleep 16 hours per day, and a little bit of praying for guidance, there is little else I've had the energy to do for days now.

Health seems ok although some of my friends on the street are alarmed at how yellow I am. They are afraid of kidney malfunction - jaundice. I'm sure it is just the way my tan has faded. My eyes are NOT yellow. I'm also running a fever but that will pass soon. It has happened before.

Thomas may be away for several weeks so I will be helping maintain the signs in the Park many of those days.

My best guess currently is that when Congress returns in early September I will be Called to return to the Hill on the issue of Impeachment or Free Palestine.

"Bomb / Don't Bomb Iran" decision finalized. Hunger Strke / Vigil Suspended

I wish I was all-knowing enough to tell YOU what to believe. But with the following I can tell you what I believe enough to act on.

Recent reports (see below) have substantially convinced me that global corporate/financial forces, those well beyond those that have been within my personal reach - Cheney / Bush / Congress / Pentagon - have made the bomb / don't bomb decision. What decision has been made? Don't know yet. But the decisionmakers - global corporate & finance powers are beyond my reach, for now anyway. Hence I've terminated the Hunger Strike and will not undertake the Pentagon vigil for today anyway.

The "News" I now ascribe to indicates:

It is clear that the decision to bomb Iran is the decision to bring about world-wide economic depression that dwarfs what was seen in the 1930's. This is known by Bush, Cheney and Israel, hence it is a decision that is beyond them, above them - the decision is in the hands of their corporate handlers.
The Pentagon has made its opposition clear to the Administration and Israel - DON'T BOMB. The Pentagon is no longer "on the fence," but in opposition.
Congress is beyond my reach now physically, recess, even if their cowardice did not make them irrelevant to the decision.
$125 / barrel oil has been extremely useful in making it clear to the world that Bomb Iran is Global Financial Meltdown. Bush / Cheney / Israel will be prevented by the Global Financial masters from making the decision. Whew!

Will Iran be bombed? Hmmm. Have you read Naomi Klein's, "The Shock Doctrine?" Bombing Iran would be perfect for bringing about the new, Fascist one-world-order.

As for my next campaign? Not sure yet. I've been standing Against (Iraq War, Bombing Iran) and that is NOT where I want to be. I want to be standing FOR Waging Love. Yes, in doing one I've been doing the other, but I'd like to find a way to entirely stand FOR Waging Love. Don't know if the time is now.

Need more time to Pray for Guidance. ("Pray?" Like Watching for Cars, both are seeking for Vision).

The way "News" is developing it looks as if either one of two things will happen -

we will NOT bomb Iran because clearly it would unleash global catastrophe, a fact universally recognized; or
we (global / one-world-order capitalists) WILL bomb Iran precisely TO bring about global catastrophe and accelerate a one-world order.

Either way I'm not sure that my presence at the Pentagon makes much sense if these options are already clearly established.

Well, Congress has retired to their Country Clubs for August, poor dears.

Although my health seems solid, I am exhausted what with the Hunger Strike and the almost 50 block round trip lugging my stuff to the Hill. I can't yet think straight about my next steps, although my sense of direction is - Continue the Hunger Strike as planned at the Pentagon weekdays and White House weekends through day 5o.

Why? To stiffen the resolve of the few Heroes at the Pentagon that are our greatest hope of not bombing Iran.

BAGHDAD — The case of a freelance photographer in Iraq who was barred from covering the Marines after he posted photos on the Internet of several of them dead has underscored what some journalists say is a growing effort by the American military to control graphic images from the war. (Full Article)

Zoriah Miller, the freelance photographer who took this image and others of marines killed in a June 26 suicide attack and posted them on his Web site, was subsequently forbidden to work in Marine Corps-controlled areas of Iraq. Maj. Gen. John Kelly, the Marine Corps commander in Iraq, is now seeking to have Mr. Miller barred from all United States military facilities throughout the world. Mr. Miller has since left Iraq.

In November 2004, Stefan Zaklin, a photographer then working for the European Pressphoto Agency, was embedded with a United States Army company. Mr. Zaklin photographed this soldier, who was shot and killed in Falluja, in a house used as a base by insurgents. The photograph ran in several European publications, and Mr. Zaklin was immediately banned from working with the unit.

Chris Hondros of Getty Images was with an army unit in Tal Afar on January 18, 2005, when its soldiers killed the parents of this blood-spattered girl at a checkpoint, and his photo was published around the world. Mr. Hondros was kicked out of the unit, though he soon became embedded with a unit in another city.

Hunger Strike Day 22; Vigil Day 154

This vigil that started early October 2007 (photo left) continues on Capitol Hill through next week at the end of which Congress goes to golf for the month.

Weekends are spent at the White House (photo right).

The Hunger Strike will continue through day #50 at the Pentagon, where a few heroes have been holding off President Cheney. Hunger Strike is suplemented with about 350 calories per day to offset the up to 50 block round trip walk to Capitol Hill. Health is good. There are as many as a dozen Congressmen that now pointedly seek my attention to give me thanks and encouragement daily when they cross to and from the White House. Once every few days or so some person or persons also, at random, spends time with me from around the country or around the world and seems to leave quite inspired, moved and committed; not unusually there are tears. News is unclear, but maybe positive regarding Iran ( Anti-War Movement Successfully Pushes Back Against Military Confrontation With Iran by Mark Weisbrot (source: Alternet) July 24, 2008). It is conceivable that I will terminate the Hunger Strike earlier than planned if the trend continues positive; saving my body for a more urgent time.

Hi sis.

I've been in DC 3 years now doing the work I do. I've never seen what I've seen this past week. Yes Code Pink is awesome, but this Ron Paul Revolution crowd, about 3000 on Saturday - they truly "get" how rotten our system is in a way that is, hmmmm, deeply hopeful. One, Tom, came in a week early. 33, from Detroit, ex Army doing construction, very bright, very well informed... I'm pretty sure he is going to return to Detroit, settle his affairs and return here to fight. Brick, I met him today, 20ish, his dad owns a successful construction firm, he may do the same - return here full time in the fight. Saturday I met a guy at the rally, my age, from VT, extremely well informed, may do the same.

Now, the pattern we have to watch for and foster, is what always brings about change - people start dropping "normal life," and going to the "fight." I often think of the soldiers at Valley Forge - abandoned by their "country" - no pay, "patriots," no matter what the cost, having left "family," farm and security, why? Because it needed to be done; it was the right thing to do.

For the first time I've seen seeds of this in a group of some mass - the Ron Paul Revolution.

Yes, you, I and a few others may stay alone for a long time, but maybe not....

Tragic. It was a terrific mission at the Pentagon, and it was off to a promising start. The officers had no idea what to do when I arrived at 9:30am with all my stuff off the metro. Within minutes they were intrigued and I had maybe 6 of them as a captive, and ever more supportive audience for half an hour or more. But by late in the afternoon the "rules" had come down from on high that the campus is closed to non-full time employees from 8pm until 6am, and technically weekends as well. I do NOT believe this was trumped up, which is a different question from whether someone could fight it. But fighting that rule is not my battle right now, and BECAUSE of the rule the logistics of this mission for one man on his 54th day of hunger strike within the last quarter is more than I can manage.

Will I remain on Hunger Strike? Where will I vigil? Will it be round the clock? I'm not sure. My guess is that I'll end the hunger strike; be on the Hill Tue-Thu (when congress is there) and at the White House other days. Round the clock? Not sure.

Pity there are not more fighters. There is Hell to pay. Am I bitter? I am sad. It is like, there is this huge banquet of opportunities, and Diane, Ann, Code Pinkers... and few others at the table. For ever plate we can eat, 10,000 go untouched. What a waste. It is going to cost us this very planet.

My intent is to maintain a round the clock vigil / Hunger Strike (Day 14) at the Pentagon Metro entrance on the Pentagon campus for 2 weeks; then to return to the Hill until congress leaves for August golf; at which point to return to the Pentagon to finish out the 50 days of intended Hunger Strike.

Thursday on the Hill WITH the songs. For whatever set of reasons there was more Congressperson initiated "thanks" for this campaign than in any previous 2 months; about 20 congressfolks made contact with me to express thanks. Amazing.

Friday at the White House, and in the evening making final arrangements for sound equipment for future vigils, with donations from a variety of folks.

Saturday and Sunday will be spent at the White House, at the Revolution March in support of a worthy musician (sharing the sound system) and preparing for the "Perpetual" Occupation of the Pentagon - by far my most dangerous assignment yet - no water, no bathroom, extremely remote, totally uncharted "legal" territory....

Note: Regarding the Hunger Strike, last Sunday was Day 14 but in Sunday evening and Monday I took almost a full day's calories in juice and fruit attempting to recover somewhat. Since then I've taken maybe 400 calories per day (25% RDA) in an attempt to stabilize my body. In an attempt to keep my Day Count high in integrity I've dropped back to #12 Day yesterday and will count upward from there expecting to divide my time between Pentagon, 2 weeks, Capitol Hill 2 weeks, and finish out the 50 days back at the Pentagon; with some time in the hospital likely interspersed.

The only way I know to describe how I felt the last two days at the White House 7/24 is that it was like I was dying. Only day 14 of this water only hunger strike but day 50 of water only hunger strike within the last 3 months in full sun with no ability to recline - sitting 24 hours per day - my lower back in unbearable agony. This morning I flagged down an officer and requested to be taken to the Hospital, but they said it would cost too much. I seem to have lost the capacity to demonstrate in this way; for now at least. I am so sad - it is such a powerful way to fight.

This week congress is debating the Blockade of Iran - a declaration of war. This morning I began taking calories and my body is responding. Hopefully I will be on Capitol Hill with my "NO BOMB IRAN," and "STOP YOUR WAR" signs during the day as soon as tomorrow, accepting refuge from Thomas and Ellen at night while I recover. Then I expect to go to the Pentagon were there are officers standing against Bush and Cheney's mad lust to war on Iran - the third largest oil reserve in the world. Iran is a country that has not initiated war on any other country in 250 years; and one that the US Intelligence Agency - all agencies - declared had dropped its Nuclear Program in 2003. But Bush and Cheney say otherwise. My hope is to help stiffen the resolve of these brave officers.

Someone at the White House yesterday said to me, "demonstrations don't work any more. 10 years ago we had a million people in the streets and they still bombed Iraq." "How long were they in the streets," I asked? "Hmmmm. A few hours."

We've seen "Flesh and Blood" Movements fighting because, UNMISTAKABLY, THEIR Flesh and Blood (non-related) depended on it: King, Gandhi, Jesus, Romero, Anti-Apartheid, Suffrage, Anti-Slavery, Code Pink's Liz Des Murphy Medea, Diane Wilson, Ann Wright....

No, Symbolic / Sacramental / Self-Saving Actions don't count no matter what they cost the practitioners.

Only Flesh and Blood saving (non-biological) Flesh and Blood constitutes the bunker- buster weapon that pierces the concrete casings that entomb our western hearts. Everything less is wasted energy - to THE GLEE OF BUSH AND CHENEY.

Hunger Strike continues but vigil, in the park, in the full sun all day suspended for a day.

No structural damage going on that I can tell, but Sunday I took quite ill with nausea and uncharacteristic exhaustion/weakness.

GERMANY'S UNPROVOKED ATTACKS ON NEIGHBORS AND INOCENTS DID NOT PROVOKE GERMAN CITIZENS TO HEROIC ACTION EN MASSE; and this cowardice defines Nazi era Germans - an irredeemable place in infamy. (There were exceptions: Holocaust Rescuers).

What is the question in such a situation as this? How do I stop the bombing of Iran? This and questions like it are questions of cowardice and inhumanity.

How MIGHT I spark the Miracle it would take?
What is the best shot I can imagine for ME to take right now, in time?

I expect to resume occupation of the Hill (PEACEMAKERS FOR US FORCES, IRANIANS, IRAQIS) up to 24/5 (weekdays) (originally an idea Col. Wright and Gael Murphy of Code Pink gave me) beginning Monday, EXCEPT DURING STORMS. Hundreds of Congressfolks walk within feet, back and forth every day. Ridiculous? In late June I expect to escalate this by undertaking my third Hunger Strike in 4 months, of 40 days duration, water and vitimin only. The previous two recent Strikes were 20 days each. In the late stages of the Strike this clearly gets into the heads of these Congressfolks. Quite powerful.

Join the "Occupation" campaign, bring your signs, courage, solidarity with Iranians, and perseverence, or...

Recovery from the two 20 day Hunger Strikes of April/May is progressing.

As per my earlier estimations I expect to return to the Hill 24/5 (weekdays) this coming Monday, until late June when I expect to go 7/24 and mount a 24/7 Hill "Occupation" in demand of the Congress taking a courageous, suffiicent stand against bombing Iran.

EVERY CITIZEN should be acting with similar commitment in the face of the Bush administration's insanity - threatening joint bombing of Iran with Israel. Madness. OFF THE HILL FOR 2 WEEKS - CONGRESS AND ME

Well, neither is the war on Iraq stopped nor is the bombing of Iran prevented; so neither am I done on the Hill. However, per plan the 20 Day Hunger Strike ended yesterday with the departure of the Congressfolks from the Hill for 2 weeks.

I expect to regain strength away from the Hill and return to the Hill when they do in early June. I expect to resume 24 hour/day occupation of the Hill weekdays, and accept refuge weekends if available so I can complete some computer intensive work, and rest.

I expect to resume Hunger Strike the end of June with a target of 40 days this time so that Congress has something worthy of pondering when they go off on their August vacations.

An acquaintance just asked me. It is covered on this site, but shehe didn't have the time or interest to look at the site below so let me outline it here.

The worst bullies in the schools we grew up in have been given by YOU AND ME $3 trillion dollars to rape and plunder Middle East oil by terrorizing the local population.
If you don't know the human cost we've extracted from the Iraqis, US Forces, US POOR, and soon the Iranians I'll not insult you by telling you.
The folks with the power, and maybe enough sanity to stop this warring are on Capitol Hill.
The strongest, clearest way I can think to cast my vote is with my body on vigil, and often on Hunger Strike.
"What is my demand?" I'm asked by this individual. My demand is that Congress shift 18o degrees from being Hell bent on rape and plunder to Waging Love to immediately end this war; and that they immediately act to PREVENT the Nazi's in the White House from bombing Iran.
When will I stop? When I perceive that there is a better way for me to fight. My guess is a total of 20 days this time, but it may go longer, maybe much longer.

A dear friend reminded me that an activist shehe knows first lost eyesight and later mind due to Hunger Strikes. Now I don't expect that will happen to me, although I realize it might.

GANDHI ON HIS DEATH BED - I NEVER UNDERSTOOD

You know how in the movie Gandhi, whenever he was on Hunger Strike he looked like he was dying? I never understood. I have lots of experience with Hunger Strikes now and I never understood.

Now, I get it. I''ve never felt on day #44 what this time I'm feeling on days 4-7; deathly listless and sick. For the last 18 hours I've been taking juice thinking that might jolt me back to my old fasting self, but so far, no impact.

My body should be in a hospital seeking medical care which I will do as soon as all of my family in Iraq, Haiti, Darfur, Palistine and among the US poor can do the same; which will only happen when in mass we Middle Class realize that our Family consists of 6 billion, not 5 or 10. I am feeling slightly better after 3.5 days. Calories, juice, soup and vitamins didn't seem to touch the deathly malaise that had me in its grip.

Then Thomas got me some bananas and I had some salt. I remembered that on Strike often potassium plummets. I am certainly a little improved.

Hunger Strike Day 4; Off the Hill till Monday

It has been a very interesting week, but day 4 of a hunger strike is usually among the worst and this strike is proving no different - no energy to write much.

My strike related poster reads "2o Day #4." My goal is 20. I'll do less if Good needs me elsewhere, and more if Good asks. My guess is the latter - but I'm not great at projecting these things.

My other posters are the same - 2 of the children we've mangled - 2 of the depleted uranium children.

Why not on the Hill till Monday? My focus is the Congressfolks. They take long weekends and will not be in session tomorrow as near as I can tell. My previous and current efforts leave not doubt in their minds as to my seriousness and commitment. With the Hunger Strike there is sufficient "punch" to my during-the-week presence that 24/7 will be marginal return. Better for me to accept the support of Ellen in the Peace House for daily transportation and a place in the evening to get online and sleep.

Well by God you ARE my sister.

Xxxx, I don't go out on a limb, into the desert, or on suicide missions to learn. No ma'am I don't! I go when the Almighty Powers, as best I can hear It says "GO!" And many times now I expected it was a suicide mission. Fine with me! Just tell me what you want me to do!

Xxxxxx, did you see my error? I didn't until 2 hours ago. Like everything I value I didn't "figure it out," flash - it was just there. "Start, you imbecile, WE'RE ALREADY IN THE DARK AGES! WE'VE ALREADY GONE INTO THE ABYSS! Don't rush off to die now, rather the flame is alive in you, you need to keep it alive until such time as Humanity is ready to regain its sanity."

Sister, did you know this already? This is big for me. I had misdiagnosed where we were, but now I think I have a better grasp of the problem, and a better idea of where to go/how to approach things/how to best serve - similar to what I've been doing, but with a better of idea of WHY - to keep the flame alive until such time. The monks of the dark ages did this - but mistakenly they went literally into the desert, or into caves. No, I think the "cave" we are to go to is "the least of these." For me I think it is on the Hill 24/7 with those signs, but not with the idea of flaming out.

I've got one vote, my body, and in these darkest of days for Humanity, in these last minutes where a new Dark Ages might be staved off I'll continue to cast that vote in the most heart-piercing, Humanity-building way-in-potential that I can imagine, minute my minute, hour by hour. Nothing less from anyone has any hope or appropriateness anymore; or our rhetoric about the darkness of these times is a lie, and it is not a lie, but rather our rhetoric is understated by orders of magnitude. Spitballs are not going to pierce these hardened hearts of our middle and overclass brethren here in the US and globally. The Fourth Reich is on the rise. Only the highest megatonage Weapons of Mass Humanity we can imagine individually becoming have any hope or appropriateness now. We must stop "playing activist" and become the Anti-Terror - now; and I can't control you, but I can control me, so I'm going to "roll."

"Never think that an individual cannot change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has." Start Loving. The individual can no longer wait for the group. It has always been the action of the individual that has been the catalyst that spawned the EFFECTIVE group, always, throughout history, invisible though these individuals have been. I have few illusions; but I've shed most of my carefully indoctrinated-by-society delusions including the one that hope lies in the group; it never has and it never will.

We talk, and talk and talk but it is as if we don't hear what we ourselves are saying. If Bush and Cheney operated in a more identifiable setting, for example a neighborhood, they would be known as muggers, rapists, thugs, thieves, hoodlums, criminals; and your loved one is being raped as we speak.

If the American people were looked at with historical perspective Nazi Germany comes to mind with the mainstream concerned with getting more while the marginalized are ignored, neglected and then oppressed as scapegoats. (Did you ever see the movie "High Noon?" We are in it. We're the townspeople.)

We Americans violate with abandon every natural law of decency, humanity, ecology, economics... like folks at a drunken orgy that has gone on way too long... and now they face a tab that is totally beyond their means, so they return to debauching to dull their senses.

And where are those still with any sanity, with any Humanity left? Demoralized. Confused. Writing. Talking. Once-a-week demonstrating. Doing what they "want" to do rather than starting with the constraints of the problem: we are out of time, the tactics we've employed show no hope of changing history, we need to spark Revolutionary PeaceBuilding / Hunanity now or whatever we do will be too little too late. Looks like activists are on a personal mission to be able to report that they did "something," unwilling to face the question - "did you take your best shot, regardless of cost?"

With what's at stake: what's left of Iraq, our US Forces, Iran's integrity, Congress's Humanity, activists' courage, US's Humanity... it is time to pull out the stops; especially realizing that we know that at this exact moment Bush / Cheney could be launching nukes at Iran, and/or allowing another False Flag terrorist attack to trigger Marshal Law, or both. It is time for all-out action even as individuals until such time as groups begin to show signs of life.

I expect to remain on Hunger and Thirst Strike on Capitol Hill until either:

a. Congress exhibits a Revolution of Humanity starting with elevating the least of these our Iraqis, US Forces and Iranians from the bottom of their priority list to the top;
b. I see some better way to serve;
c. They stop letting me out of the hospital to return to the Hill;
d. I am incapacitated or expire.

I have almost no experience with a Thirst Strike so all I can do is guess that as soon as this weekend but more likely next week at some point I'll have some sort of medical event - hallucination, loss of consciousness, whatever. Almost certainly if the officers spot it in time they'll have me taken to the hospital, force hydrate/feed me, eventually let me out; I expect to return to the Strike on the Hill, repeat.... When they get tired of this, incarceration? Banning from the Hill? Commitment?

Know that I am completely at peace with this. I need nothing; but Action needs everything.

Based on past experience I expect no press, but if there is press for which I have some respect, I intend to stay entirely on point of the mission - what I am doing, why - and to allow no side trips to all the voyeuristic stuff they love to distract their audiences with. In short, I'd not be a very fun interview on this campaign - all business.

What do I expect to achieve? If you ever watch the extraordinary movie, "Cry Freedom," notice how at the end of the movie they scroll through the list of activists murdered by the apartheid system of South Africa. The list is chronological and begins in the 1960's as I recall. Apartheid finally was overthrown, partially, in 1993, 30 years later? The way things currently look I am working to start the clock so whoever is left 30 years from now can achieve some significant success in throwing off the Police State we are headed for. No, I do NOT expect we will see Bush / Cheney leave office in 300 days; nor do we deserve to see them leave.

By the way, if / when I get into health trouble the cruelest possible blow to me would be to divert net energy away from sparking the Revolutionary Humanity I'm striving to initiate. I am expendable. Humanity is NOT expendable.

Goodby, what does that mean? How should I know; I'm writing as fast as this is coming to me. But it has to do with moving out of communities / relationships I have been in for the same reason I entered them - to attempt to do Good. By being in relationship with many of you I suspect this has been the case - I have done you some Good, as you have done me. But I sense that with most but not all of you I have ceased doing good and am enabling by my "presence" exactly the spirit of Empire / UnHumanity / InHumanity my life is100% dedicated to eradicating with Humanity.

(This post is among my most important, but least cogent sharings.)

A year and a half ago God took mercy on me and my pitiful struggles toward Life / Truth / regaining-my-Humanity and revealed to me the Truth that Life lay along the Path of never again working for money, but living or dying solely within the relationship of "Family," from each according to herhis ability, to each according to herhis need. My yearnings had been tearing me in that direction forever but the clarity that day at the White House on hunger strike for Darfur was a Divine gift. It was soooo the Clarity I had been searching for. And thus I've LIVED WITH A SHAMEFUL WEALTH OF JOY ever since.

Today I've received the next installment - Life comes, is developed by, and is to be accepted ONLY from PeaceWarriors / Humanitarians / Christlikes / WorldFamily, come what may. ("Christlikes?" What Jesus attempted to restore us to - "Our Father.... (Jesus said, including you and me WITH Himself.)" "Whoever claims to abide in Jesus aught to live just like Jesus lived;" John's 2nd letter. Why not "Christians?" Christians are Pagans and Zionist-jews that stole and have masqueraded under the "Christ" brand for wholly evil, anti-Christlike reasons; the greatest most murderous hijacking / hoax / atrocity / holocaust in history.)

Is all this ranting of mine Exclusionary? Elitist? How could I have been so blind, I wonder. This is among the most profound, hopeful awakenings on my part in the last 10 years! Eureka! Thank God! When I was in the computer industry turning around failing organizations I was acutely aware of the ULTIMATE importance of having the right people in the organization. Everything was possible with, nothing was possible without. Truly and consciously I would much rather have had vacant seats, than to have those seats filled with non-zealous, non-selfdisciplined, non-committed folks; and frequently so it went. Since leaving industry, and especially since entering God's business, Saving Humanity, I've totally, TOTALLY overlooked this ALL IMPORTANT ASPECT. In industry would I have hired / engaged with someone because they were nice, because they were pleasant, because they were kind, because their WORDS were agreeable? NO! These are important ingredients but totally insufficient in and of themselves to achieve anything great. No, the crucial ingredient I knew to look for in a recruit / partner / fellow traveler / contributor then was potential for Vision / Burning Desire / Fire / Passion / Courage / Commitment / Self-Sacrifice / Self-Discipline / Complete Devotion, Surrender and Submission to Mission. This has been nowhere on my radar screen, a profound and total blind spot day after day, year after year since joining God's Business - Humanity. Thank God for this new clarity. God forgive me if I forget again.

The last two months have been spent using all of my powers and all of my resources to be an instrument in God's hands to bring the most able PeaceWarrior I've ever encountered back to Life from a murderous, Evil affliction. Success? "Full effort is full success," Gandhi. Yes. Will health return? Will this PeaceWarrior return to battle after so many years? God knows. Better pray that shehe does.

During these two months the best friend, the only total friend and fellow traveler God ever gave me (my father doesn't count) withdrew from / terminated our relationship. For the sake of this individual I've long been begging for himher to make a decision between Life and Empire; I've been emphatic that more important than WHAT was chosen was making a choice because heshe was being ripped apart attempting to straddle the two realms year after year. Well, the choice was made, thank God - and Empire, the Dark Side was the choice (we 600 million overclass, white, abusive and exploitative western Empirists can't be wrong. Right?) Anikan Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith. There may be no work of art that so clearly shows us the dynamics and mechanisms of how Empire destroys Humanity - and how "immediate family," "my group" is THE mortal Sin / the great Killer. Life dies the second that the cell elevates the needs of itself and its group above the needs of the Body. The fault in the case of my friend lies with me, in part. I have not yet become that which we are all called by Jesus, Wilson, Wright, Arbeiter, Hohensee, Connie, Beverly, Preston, Gandhi, King... to become - Life, Salvation, a Savior, that which overcomes the otherwise overwhelming call of Empire.

It has been many, many years since I've experienced such pain as I have over this tragic loss of my friend. I've been sick and bleeding for weeks now. Rarely have I received such a gift - the gift of Sight /Vision, among the innumerable gifts I have received from this blessed friendship for which I'll be eternally grateful. No other way could I have had the veil of Illusion and Denial ripped from my eyes, a veil I've been clinging to so tightly, unawares. Excruciating but so necessary. Now, only now can I see and face the horrible, wonderful truth that everything depends on delineating the demarcation between that which is cancer and that which is health; and partnering with Health / Christlikes... or standing alone. And the cancer that is the spirit of Empire, the cancer that is our religion of group selfishness, superority, oppression and mass exploitation of the least of our Family exists entirely on its brilliance at disguising itself as VIRTUE! "Nothing is to tempting as evil in the garb of Virtue." King. "1984." "Animal Farm." The Bush administration and its war on "Terror (Humanity)" in which we bystanders are ENTIRELY complicit, guilty, bloodsoaked.

The new clarity? There is, there IS PeaceWarrior / Christlike (health) and everything else is Death (cancer); everything else, no matter how kIND, how nICE is the end of Life-worth-living on earth - lIVING Death. Extreme view? Your heart is extreme - it NEVER for an instant has stopped to think of itself; it NEVER has stopped beating, stopped Living entirely for the body - for the "least of these." Same for the skin cell, the eye, the ear, the liver.... Such total, complete, 100% service, EXTREME SERVICE of the BODY is the way, the only way of Life NOTHING ELSE IS LIFE. It is precisely this Clarity that seized and held Jesus, and now holds me. Thank God. "What profiteth a man to win the wORLD but to lose hisher Life; hisher HUMANITY?" "The good shepherd lays down his life for the flock." "Do unto others ALL that you would have them do for you." "You cannnot serve God and Mammon." Falling away from what the heart knows and practices, what the skin cell knows and practices - 24/7 service - is the ENTIRETY of the Biblical "Fall" from Grace, the Fall from God / Life / Love / Humanity. "We will be extremists for love, or extremists for hate." ML King. Tissue is healthy, or it is cancer. Start Loving.

The new clarity? I am to exist on support from PeaceWarriors / Christlikes (desperately-seeking-wanabees like me qualify) alone, or I am not to exist (no matter; when was the last time you grieved with the death of one of your cells? Me either.). Life cannot come from Cancer, and certainly not by encouraging / enabling cancer (sloth, delusion, exploitation, selfishness...). Specifically I expect to be on the Hill 24/7 within a few days or weeks. Unlike before where I was to exist on only the kINDNESSES of acquantances and strangers, NOW I am to exist or not only, ONLY on the collaboration of PeaceWarriors / Christlikes (including wanabees like me). The outlook for continuation of my pulse is not terrific, seeing as the only PeaceWarriors I know - about 15 - are out of state and or TOTALLY over-committed to other fields of battle within the PeaceWar, and MUST NOT leave their posts. Never the less it is clear to me, IT IS AN ENORMOUS BLESSING AND INEXPRESSIBLY JOYFUL AND HOPEFUL TO SEE that this is how it will be for me. THANK GOD! So many possibilities.

I wonder. I think that maybe God has it where it wants me so I can finally being Its work. Oh, what Blessing that would be.

OFF THE HILL UNTIL MONDAY AT LEAST

I have been so extraordinarily, so unfairly blessed my entire life, and especially in the last few years - with Joy.

If there is any justice in this, it is that my life now, and I suspect forever, every cell, every neuron, is 1000% dedicated to making this inexpressible Joy I have, available to all Humanity - born and unborn. Yes, I may well fail. Yes, I am trying to follow Jesus and others in this work.

I've had an unbidden revelation today as to an evolved path of how I need to proceed. To wrestle with, and to jump-start this evolved path I need some time at the computer. Until God and Her Angels (about 72 of them at $10 per) equip me with a wireless service plan ($720 / year) from Verizon (I have the card) for my laptop (for access on the Hill) this necessites being OFF THE HILL.

I expect to be off the Hill, with some of my "Immediate Family" in the Philadelphia area until at least Monday.

HOME (THE HILL) FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Home is where the heart is.

I guess it is like our brother Thomas says, "I don't like needless suffering." (Hear Thomas, CLICK photo). (Learn from Thomas' at his new site: Thomas).

Well, my heart is so many places, with so many people that I know and Love. But, like any father, sibling, child... my heart is most with my "least of these." I want to spend the holidays with my children in US Forces, my Iraqis and Iranians, so I'll be on the Hill I expect, the closest I can be to them all at once.

Hmm. The weather has been pretty tough the last few days causing the signs to literally fall apart. Two Angels happened by tonight with some warm soup and were happy to take me to refuge for the evening so I can repair the signs and stave off their total destruction.

God willing I'll be back on the Hill tomorrow morning.

Wednesday Evening I'll be gone from about 6pm until 10pm speaking with a group of friends - our topic is roughly - moving from distance, apathy or animosity to intimacy in a relationship.

Friday the 12th I'll be gone to another function all night.

I slept 13 hours night before last and 15 hours last night. The point? I think my body is trying to tell me some things:
1. I'm a whimp
2. I'm a lush
3. The many weeks on the Hill took more out of me than I understood.

Also, I've been little besides emotional drain on my DC family here at the Peace House these last few months. There are a few small projects here I could do to contribute.

The point?!?!?! I'm quite sure I'm called back to the Hill by Monday next week. I am NOT sure how many days BEFORE then.

Friends,

I wish there were a bit more time to write. Maybe next week when I'll take 24hrs or so for court - when I have to hand in my certificate of Community Service completed today (as discussed in yesterday's post).

For now:

* This is a very difficult time for me and the few heroes I see in the self-proclaimed "Peace Movement." It is horrifying to see the Democrats cave at every turn and stand for nothing (voting in Mukasey for example / caving on Water Boarding). No one is fighting for the hearts and minds, for the Humanity of the American people except for a handful like Desiree, Laurie, Ann, Diane, 26 Year Peace Vigil, a few of the Code Pink folks and doubtless a few hundred others around the country.
* The Hunger Strike was an especially powerful aspect of the campaign and now that I am consuming calories I sense much less penetration of hearts among those witnessing the 24/7 vigil. I sense almost a let down and confusion among those witnessing.
* A heartwarming and sustaining level of support has materialized (see post below).
* But there is no evidence that I will not wind up in the hospital due to starvation or dehydration over the next few months. The level of support is not commensurate with the Vigil.
* It is getting very cold.
* The police are beginning to show signs that their "superiors" are getting a bit tired of this guy being on the Hill 24/7. Many times per night the police are stopping to "check" on (harass) me. A saving grace is that they seem embarrassed to do so. I feel quite willing to go to jail over this vigil for as long as they dictate if necessary. I do not see retreating or accomodating any further than I already have.

With all this I should feel discouraged. I do feel tired. I do feel slightly depressed. I do NOT feel discouraged. I feel clear that now more than ever I need to keep the tiny flame burning on the Hill - for the congresspeople, for the passers by, for the heroic activists, for the lip-service activists....

A friend of mine in DC is in fairly acute medical need. It may be that I will need to take time from the Hill to care for him. Yet it is extremely important that the Vigil on the Hill be maintained, unbroken, month after month....

This is an extremely dark time for the world. We must all walk out in faith, into the darkness, and generate and follow what little bits of flame we can muster. Everything depends on it.

For arrest early August I either do 8 hours community service or jail. I've decided that I am more valuable to humanity on the Hill than in jail right now. Ellen picked me up at 5pm today and I expect to be back on the Hill by 8am Thursday morning.

****Chris ???*** Correction 11/7/07: Hmmm. Now that I've had a chance to listen to Dodd's voice on the radio, and to check the internet - it could have been any of three "Chris's" that stopped by to see me.

Mid last week in the middle of the afternoon I was sitting on the steps of the Cannon House Office building about two in the afternoon gazing into the sky toward the west so my gaze was averted from passersby, giving them full permission to gaze, ignore, ponder… whatever. My peripheral vision is quite good and I became aware of a tall figure obviously walking toward me to engage.

To express welcome I redirected my gaze to the figure. “Start, I’m Chris Dodd of Connecticut,” said a voice that would strike anyone with its pronounced humility, respect, humanity and kindness. “I’m worried about your health.”

“I offer you my great thanks for what you are doing. You are impacting both sides of the aisle. You are showing us what it means to stand for a cause.”

About a week and a half ago I was sitting on the steps of the Cannon Office Building sitting up with the signs, but dozing in the early afternoon.

I was awakened by “Hello.” I turned and recognized the face of the man at my left but before I could find the name he continued. “I’m Dennis Kucinich,” he said with no more ore less pomp than when you or I introduce ourselves. “I’ve driven past you before and this time I didn’t want to drive by again, so I had to park and come over. Thank you for what you are doing. Thank you for your courage.”

It takes a village. Part of the small village that has supported my work over the years is in Philadelphia and for my joy, and in support of them I am staying here one day longer than I had anticipated.

Capitol Hill Campaign Day 25 BRIEF BREAK

For now - 3 DAY BREAK from the 7/24 Occupation I've been maintaining. Hypothermia, Exhaustion, the Toll of this my 5th Hunger Strike in the last 18 months - they say discretion is the better part of valor. I'm ok, but I think it wise if I target not tomorrow, but Monday AM to return to Capitol Hill 24/7.

Day #16 Hunger Strike for US Forces, Iranians, Iraqis

The weather is very kind - mild. My body is no longer putting out much heat due to the Hunger Strike. It was mid 70's but even so I was chilly with two sweatshirts on.

Often the Congress People use the tunnels but today they were out in force all day long. Many had to look at the Hunger Strike and ponder. My sense is that their Spirits, their Humanity is all but dead. They need what I am doing, and similar work from many, many, many people before their Humanity will be restored.

Joan N. from Kennett Sq, PA came by for a while. In her mid 70's I guess. Seems to spend more time in DC getting arrested for efforts to stop the war, than she spends at the bridge table. Very inspiring.

I'm pretty weak physically but everything else checks out ok.

I expect to return to Cannon first thing tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and remain there 24/5-7 with few exceptions for many, many, many months.

This was a victory for the "system," in God's eyes.

Due to weekly vigils of Catholic Workers / Jonah House there is familiarity and a modicum of respect on the part of the Pentagon police, and ilLegal inJustice system staff involved with us yesterday. With the benefit of their "sense" of "our kind," the officers / court / etc involved quickly realized, as I realized on the spot, that they had lumped me in with tomato planters, which I did not. I contested nothing, just gently shared the Truth pre-trial.

History, and my brotherly behavior toward this part of my family evoked from them, "we'll dismiss your charges. We don't want you penalized for something you did not do."

Details on the day will be appearing at Jonah House soon, I expect.

I am now, on Hunger Strike, working round the clock to bring Start Loving to an acceptable level of completion.

My expectation is to be on Capitol Hill at Cannon House Office Building by Tuesday, 24/7 until the next court date November 14th.
